RAIDER RECAP of Grove City match
The young Raiders scored an impressive 43-22 win over a very talented Grove City team on Wednesday. Reynolds won 8 of the 13 weight classes and racked up bonus points with 6 pins and a forfeit. In a not-so-unusual move by Coach Casey Taylor, several wrestlers shifted up a weight class (or two) to counter against some of the strengths of the Eagles. This move created much more excitement with several matchups of state ranked wrestlers.
Greyden Gustas moved to 152 pounds and opened the action with a quick pin to start the Raider win. Grove City bounced back with two wins when Cody Hamilton stepped up to 160 to score an impressive major decision over our Vito Gentile in the first battle of ranked wrestlers. And then Eagle star and last year's state runner-up, Hunter Hohman, scored a fall over Louie DeJulia to give Grove City their only lead during this contest with a 10-6 score.
But the Reynolds big boys turned the match around with impressive pins by Colton Tupper and Casey Resek while Kolton Wilkinson won in a gutsy back and forth match by sealing his one-point lead with a late takedown for a 6-3 win. We turned the corner to the lower weights with the inaugural appearance of Hudson Wolbert at 107 lbs. where he received a forfeit pushing the score to 27-10 leaving the eventual match results mostly in hand.
Angelo Lamonte moved up to take on state ranked Tanner Hamilton in a tough 5-2 loss. Angelo just missed a few takedowns at the edge of the mat and lost one at the very end of the 2nd period (I actually thought the buzzer sounded before he hit the mat).
Reynolds bounced back with quick pins from Waylon Waite and Louie Gill as a leadup to another match of ranked wrestlers. Logan Stewart moved up to 133 to take on Hudson Hohman, 4th in last year's PIAA. In one of the most exciting matches of the night, the Raider freshman stalwart held a surprising (to Grove City) lead for much of the contest before he dropped a one-point match to the much larger Eagle star.
The match closed out with another quick pin by Chase Bell and gutsy Kevyn Malgieri losing to a very good Will Schell by a fall to complete the evening’s competition.

Seneca Valley Raiders Overview
Reynolds vs Seneca Valley History: 3-1
All contests were in this very same Raider Duals event starting in 2019. The only year missed since then was in 2022 when a Covid19 outbreak caused the event to be cancelled. The loan Reynolds Raider loss was in 2021 to one of Seneca Valley’s premier teams. That was Reynolds only loss that season and they went on to win their 5th straight state team title.
Looking at their roster, Seneca Valley fields a very young team. The SV Raiders have a core of very good and dangerous wrestlers in seasoned Connor Smith (8th 2023 PIAA AAA, ranked 5th), sophomores Zach Evans (ranked 30th and 6 pins) and Corey Wolfe (ranked 25th and 7 pins). Also, keep an eye on junior Brooks Beres who has pinned everyone that he has beaten.

TEAM TOTALS
What is interesting to me, SV has victories less than half the time when there is no pin but their pins count of 51 is very high. They do seem to give up many pins as well. We will see how bonus points play out on the mat.

Sharpsville Blue Devils Overview
History Reynolds leads the all time series 57-0.
Milestone: 800th RHS win in 2017, 74-3
Sharpsville was a competitive team last year but with most everyone returning this season. They should be a tough match for anyone on their schedule. Their lineup includes 9 wrestlers with double digit victories in this young season (see the roster) including undefeated seniors in Caullin Summers (8th in PIAA last year) and the always tough Josh DIvens.
Add two more seniors that appear to have stepped up their game with only one loss each, so far are returning state qualifier Alex Rueberger and David Moyer. Junior Big Boys Max Hernandez and Brian White look impressive with 12-2 records.
The young guns are making waves too. Sophmore David Miller has picked up where he ended his freshman year with an 11-3 tally. And freshman David Miller is attracting attention with the same 11-3 start in his career.
To top it off, the Blue Devils is the pinningest (is that a real word?) team we have faced so far, clocking in a whopping 77 pins already. More on this in the roster section.

The Blue Devils are a pinning team! Consider they have had 179 total individual matches. Only 38 resulted in decisions. They scored a very impressive 77 pins and have been pinned 26 times. The remaining 38 matches are wins by forfeits
Here is a rundown of the team's accumulative individual results.

TEAM Totals: 140-39 18/10 6/3 1/0 77/26 38/0
Individual pin leaders are:
8 pins: Caullin Summers, Alex Rueberger & Josh Divens
7 pins: David Moyer
6 pins: Max Hernandez
5 pins: Jacob Burdett, Michael McClearn & David Miller
Conversely, several boys have given up significant numbers of pins too - a factor which may very well affect the team's chances for victory.
Notably, every match for both Jacob Burdett & Raymond Scardina have ended in fall, for or against. Also, Michael McClearn and Dominik Cataldi have been pinned 4 times each.
St Vincent St Mary Fighting Irish Overview
We don’t have much information of the St Vincent St Mary (SVSM) team since we are not experienced with the Ohio wrestling media channels. The following was pieced together from information found on various web sites with match or tournament coverage.
Instead of the usual format used to report PA teams, this report is consisted of specific results. Note all weight classes are for the Ohio standard (actually, the national standard).

Save me a seat!
If I may add a comment, the 2021 loss to Seneca Valley ended a 61 match win streak, 2nd longest in program history! The Raiders then won 18 straight to complete an amazing 79-1 run which included their 5th straight state dual championship!
